Emergency Medical Coordinator W/M

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization created in 1971 that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters.
In close collaboration with the Operational Cell in HQ, the Emergency Medical Coordinator defines and implements the medico-operational strategy of the emergency intervention. He/she is responsible for the planning and coordination of all medical activities and resources. He/she may be deployed as Medical Coordinator, medical focal point, or as a medical component in an explo/assessment team; and may be deployed either for an intervention managed directly by the Emergency Cell or equally for an emergency intervention managed by one of the other Operational Cells.
Main responsibilities:
Defining, monitoring and updating the medical strategy of emergency interventions, and translating the identified health needs into a medical strategic vision which includes defining realistic project objectives, priorities and resources needed in order to address appropriately the medical and humanitarian needs of the population identified as at risk.
This includes a capacity to rapidly assess/reassess and diagnose an emergency situation, and to propose and argument creative but realistic medical operations and epidemiological studies, and to define an appropriate scale and timescale for these operations.
Ensure the appropriateness and quality of medical interventions.
Play a leading role within a multidisciplinary team, capable of opening and engaging in team discussions and decisions to ensure strong, comprehensive, pertinent medical operations.
Continuous monitoring of the medical and humanitarian needs of the target population.
Responsibility for the supervision and monitoring of all medical technical aspects of the operation, in collaboration with the Cell and the medical department.
In close collaboration with the HR team, participate in the planning, definition and sizing of the medical teams, international and national.
Together with the HR team, define, update and implement a Mission’s Health and Safety Policy Framework for country opening.
Responsibility for defining and appropriately sizing other resources (pharmacy and medical equipment management, in collaboration with logistics and pharmacy teams) and defining timelines, procedures and protocols. Ensure appropriate preparation of all medical orders in collaboration with the Pharmacy and Logistics Departments and the submission of all medical purchase requests to HQ. Accountability for the proper management of all pharmacy activities in the operation.
Provide reports on the evolution of the operation from the medical perspective, as required, including an analysis of the medical data from MSF and other medical actors, and incorporating any other epidemiological data, to provide a regular summary of the situation and to adjust the proposed strategy accordingly.
Responsibility for the Medical Library of the Mission. Informing the medical field staff of all materials available, and keeping all medical documents updated in the database
Promoting the learning opportunities of local and international medical staff including promotion of MSF training opportunities, and supporting the advancement of medical staff towards agreed career objectives.
Representation of MSF to authorities up to the level of the Minister of Health, creating a network with all relevant actors (MSF teams, UN agencies, NGOs, local organizations, donor organizations, authorities, academics and researchers) in order to broaden the analysis of the medical-humanitarian situation, strengthening the impact of the medical intervention and actively participating in advocacy based on our medical operations.
Qualifications needed
Experience
- Essential, to be validated MSF Medical Coordinator and to have at least one year's experience in a similar position with MSF and at least 2 years of field experience with MSF and/or other NGOs.
- Experience in different types of missions (epidemics, conflicts, natural disasters, population displacements).
- Experience in an emergency context

Languages
French (B2) and English (B2) mini required
Desirable working knowledge in Arabic.
Knowledge in other MSF working languages such as Spanish is an asset.
Terms of Employment
Field-based position with visits to HQ in Paris.
Fixed-term and full-time contract (12 months, 100%) with possible extension.
Ideal starting date: 1st of June 2025
Gross monthly salary according to MSF field salary grid, level 14
Specific Emergency package including completion bonus and extra paid leaves.
